Random variables
- Random variables are described by probability
distributions.
- Random variables can be continuous (e.g., 9.4)
(such as leg length)
- They can be categorical or discrete
such as fracture/no fracture or male/female.
- Categorical random variables can result from cutoff values of
continuous variables
- (e.g., leg-length discrepancy \(>2\) cm or radial inclination
\(>11\) degrees)
