• Cuff muscles act in three ways

  • They fuse distally with the capsule and adjust the tension creating a “dynamic ligament”

  • They act as couples to hold the humeral head in the glenoid socket

  • Can resist displacement forces generated by contraction of the main peripheral shoulder muscles
