23.20 Dynamic elements in gleno-humeral stability
Rotator cuff (muscles) are the primary dynamic stabilizer
Supraspinatus, subscapularis, infraspinatus, and teres minor
The have similar anotomical topograpy
Their role as coaptors of the humeral head are more important they their fuction as rotators
They apply rapid tension that compresses the humeral head into the glenoid fossa (cup) and labrum (fibrocartiliginous rim of the cup)
The tendon of the long head of the biecpes acts with the rotator cuff
The all have a muscle belly originating from the scapular and terminating with a long tending crossing the glenohumeral joint and merging with the capsule distally.
